Dental Splints and Mouth Guards

Dental splints and mouth guards are very useful in dentistry. Since their production, they have been continuously evolving with technology and they often show great results when made with proper materials.

Dental splints are the tools that are often used to cover injured or diseased parts of the mouth. They are also sometimes used to cover teeth to give a relief and muscular relaxation. Dental Splint Materials are available in 6 shapes including round and square. Dental splints are often custom made from plastics or fiberglass. Some splints are called hard splints where they don’t completely go around the injured area but stay stiff with the help of band-aids.

Mouthguards also come under dental splints. They are the materials that are not just used to protect athletes from injuries but are also commonly used in dental procedures to provide a barrier between the braces and cheeks.

Mouthguards in sports are often only used on the upper jaw whereas mouthguards in dentistry are used both on upper and lower jaws. The Mouthguard Material is available in many different colors. They are often made out of material like laminated thermoplastics, polyurethane and clear thermoplastics. These make the mouthguards stronger and one can easily boil them while cleaning as they are heat resistant. These materials are often subjected to many tests as they must withstand wear and tear, temperature differences and moisture.
